A conundrum…

01 Mar

What do you do when a DJ plays out one of your unfinished mixes?

I’m not going to name names or anything like that but I heard over the weekend that a well-known DJ had grabbed one of my sample mixes (clearly marked ‘ TEST ‘) from my download site and played it out on Saturday night without asking me about it……now don’t get me wrong, I hope I’m not being a hypocrite as I use people’s stuff all the time in my mixes but at least their track is usually finished isn’t it?

Now the big question is: do I say something to the person in question or do I keep quiet and just accept it as one of those things? I don’t want to p*ss this person off but I think I might need to set my stall out in some way don’t I?

Ah well, not the biggest problem in the world I know, but it did my head in last night….well, for at least 5 minutes or so! haha

Cheers, Neil T

Hi Neil, really sorry to hear about someone playing one of your unfinished mixes out at the weekend. I would like to think that it ‘certainly’ was’nt any of us out at Marlow?[i know for a fact it was’nt me[lol], and you know as well as i do, that it would’nt be Shaun, Chris & hopefully neither Jim Jackson or Bass either. Anyway, i hope you can get the situation sorted mate- and whoever it was, i’m sure no Malice was intended,

    All the best, Richard

Neil. It’s a difficult one but my advice would be to look more positively at this ,accept it has happened and move on. You’re probably a bit more sensitive to your imperfections but I don’t think others will notice that it is work in progress, having said that I haven’t heard the piece you refer to but I’m guessing it will be fab. Maybe for now until you get to where you need to be take it on the chin as a compliment it’s all exposure and besides yjr big name DJmust have liked it.

Thanks guys – hey Rich, no worries mate – it wasn’t any of you guys….

You know what, I actually did take it as a compliment but was just worried that it wasn’t good enough and it might make people think “Jesus, that mix is a bit rough” etc – I didn’t lose any sleep over it or anything but I think it would have been nice to be asked beforehand….

Soulfly, I think you’re right though – it goes with the terrritory I suppose….

And who am I to talk about using stuff without permission? LOL
